Registration now open for 20th CHIME meeting

Los Angeles, 29 March-2 April 2017

Registration is now open for the 20th International CHIME Conference, on 'Festivals', which will be held in Los Angeles, USA, between 29 March and 2 April 2017. Please check the conference website via https://www.ethnomusic.ucla.edu ; there you will be directed further to information about registration, practical arrangements, special events and (once it is ready) the conference schedule.

The main theme of the conference is 'Chinese and East Asian music in Festivals.' In acknowledgement of the ongoing Dunhuang project collaboration between UCLA, the UCLA Confucius Institute and the Getty Center, a second theme is performing arts of western China and its neighbours. In addition, as always, we reserve some space for presentations of new research on other aspects of Chinese and East Asian music.

The meeting is hosted by the World Music Center of the Department of Ethnomusicology, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, with generous sponsorship from the UCLA Confucius Institute.

With the festive themes at hand, and a very promising turn-out of abstracts and panel proposals, we look forward to a fine programme of presentations, films and musical performances. There will be a generous presence of guests from China, a concert evening of music from Western China and its Neighbours on Saturday 1 April, a special exhibition of Chinese and Southeast Asian instruments at the Schoenberg Music Building, and an outing (on Sunday 2 April) to the Chinese American Museum in Los Angeles, amongst other things! We hope to meet you at CHIME in LA at the end of March!
